Brick Hardigan

Born Darnell Hardigan on Chicago's South Side. At sixteen he went to work at a brickyard and loading dock on the far South Side, stacking block and mortar in lake wind that cut through every coat he owned, while his mother kept the rent money in a flour tin on the counter and counted it twice. The yard taught him the only doctrine he has ever needed: pressure is a pedigree, not a problem. Every callus is a receipt, every January is a bill he paid, and the concrete remembers his name because he put it there himself.
